“The Pepperoni Pizza Meatball Sub combines three classic Italian-American comfort foods—a meatball sub, pepperoni pizza and garlic bread—all in one delicious sub,” says Jay Miller, Director of Product Development for fast casual Firehouse Subs. Knowing that comfort flavors are still a priority for many Americans, Miller is confident the new handheld will be a huge success. It’s well-positioned, balancing bold flavors and portability for guests with operational ease and profitability for franchisees, he notes.

The new menu item features tender Italian meatballs, a double helping of melted provolone, crispy pepperoni, zesty marinara sauce and Italian seasoning stuffed into a freshly toasted garlic bread roll. “Meatball enthusiasts love this mash-up of classic Italian-American flavors,” says Miller of the sub’s performance in trial runs. In fact, it’s already spun off a new limited-time option: Guests can upgrade to a toasted garlic bread for any sub on Firehouse’s menu.
