Given its intentionally vague description on the menu, The Yellow Pony’s Milk Punch projects an air of mystery. The cocktail boasts a closely guarded recipe, one that entails a multi-day process involving milk clarification and infusing a blend of spirits, cereal flavors and spices. “One of the fun ingredients in the drink is a Froot Loops-flavored vodka, a playful and nostalgic angle of having cereal with milk as one of the main ingredients. The flavor of the drink is mostly citrus- and pineapple-based, with a touch of spice,” says Roland Micu, master sommelier and beverage director of this globally inspired gastro lounge.
The Milk Punch offers a visual cue of its flavor profile with a playful garnish: crushed Fruity Pebbles are “painted” onto the glass, providing a hint about one of the secret ingredients. The lean into the mystique of the drink carries high expectations. “The drink must deliver—which it does,” says Micu. “It is balanced and layered. Many people are initially hesitant because their imagination can’t help but picture a milky, creamy-esque cocktail. However, once they see it and, better yet, try it, they are pleasantly surprised.”
